Most ill or disabled individuals can remain in their own homes with the help of support services. Home and community-based services, administered by the Division of Senior and Disability Services (DSDS), are available to eligible persons 60 or older and to adults with disabilities between the ages of 18 and 59.
Consumer-directed services (CDS), although similar in nature to in-home services, are provided to persons with a physical disability and do not include any task performed by a licensed professional. A participant of CDS must be able to direct the care planning process and hire an attendant. In general, CDS consists of personal care (bathing, cleaning, and meal preparation). CDS will allow you to hire your own caregiver: a family member or friend if you prefer.
